Confirmation : Practicing Our Faith

 

Our Confirmation classes for 7th, 8th and 9th graders meet Wednesday night (September through May) from 6 pm - 7:45 pm.

We use the" Head to Heart" confirmation program from Faith Inkubators . The aim of our confirmation program is to partner with parents to develop in our youth a mature and knowledgeable faith in Jesus Christ, who will edify them, challenge them, and save them. The church serves as a reinforcement not a replacement of the parents role. Students are confirmed in the fall of their 10th grade year.

Students gather for a large group presentation led by the pastor and/or the lay ministry team, then split off into small groups of 3-6 students for guided discussion. Other parts of the program include fellowship, servant projects, intergenerational mentoring, and worship. Students work in these areas by meeting in their small groups or in larger groups designed for maximum participation and learning.

A typical confirmation schedule is:

Quiz on previous weeks learning: 6:00 - 6:20

Music and Announcements: 6:20 - 6:35

Presentation: 6:35 - 7:05

Small Group: 7:05 - 7:35 - Discussion with small group and adult guide

Closing: 7:35 - 7:45 - Ending Devotion and Prayer

3 year Rotation of Curriculum

Year 1: 2010-2011 - 10 Commandments and Lord's Prayer. Retreat will cover "Hot Topics"

Year 2: 2011-2012 - Apostles Creed and Lutheran Life. Retreat will cover "Martin Luther and the Reformation"

Year 3: 2012-2013 - The Bible: Old Testament and New Testament. Retreat will cover "The New Testament"

Preparing for Affirmation of Baptism - 10th grade year

Retreat scheduled for Saturday October 15th and 16th. 10 AM Saturday to 9:30 AM Sunday. The topics covered will be Confessing, Confirming, and Calling.
